In a wider sense, ‘aesthetics’ refers to ‘A set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty.’ In bodybuilding there is some debate as to what an aesthetic body looks like but most agree that its getting the right combination of tight waist, broad shoulders, proportion and symmetry.

It is also believed that what is considered aesthetic or most aesthetic may have changed over the years as bodybuilding trends and what people believe looks and is better change.

Anabolic processes tend toward “building up” organs and tissues. These processes produce growth and differentiation of cells and increase in body size, a process that involves synthesis of complex molecules. Examples of anabolic processes include the growth and mineralization of bone and increases in muscle mass.

The word anabolic comes from the Greek ἀναβολή anabole, “that which is thrown up, mound.”

Body Types

The terms ‘ectomorph,’ ‘endomorph’ and ‘mesomorph’ were originally used by American psychologist William Sheldon to associate body types with temperament types. His theories are now mostly considered as false by modern scientists. [source: Wikipedia]

The terms are now used, especially in the bodybuilding industry, to describe general body types, considering characteristics such as metabolism, fat proportion, muscle proportion, bone structure etc.

The name of the miscellanous section of the popular forums. Contains all the random topics that aren’t appropiate for the other sections of the forum.

It has aquired a stereotype that it is predominatley populated, ironically, by people who don’t even work out. Most members enjoy the anonymity the section provides and therefore feel free to post opinions and content that they would otherwise feel too embarrassed to share in real life, often with hilarious results.

Members have the option to post an avatar of themselves to show off their physique as well as the option to list their physical stats and age. If the avatar and/or stats are unflattering, they could end up being reposted by other members mockingly when they disagree with one of their opinions.

Members can be awarded with positive or negative reputation points from other members depending on the content of their posts. The positive points are known as reps/greens and are received for quality posts while negative points, otherwise known as negs, are usually reserved for poor posts and trolls. These trolls are disdainfully known as ‘reds’ and are largely ignored by the other members of the board.

It is heavily moderated to keep the frequent trolling at bay with moderate success.

prohormone is a substance that is a precursor to a hormone, usually having minimal hormonal effect by itself. The term has been used in medical science since the middle of the 20th century. The primary function of a prohormone is to enhance the strength of the hormone that already occurs in the body. Prohormones add no hormones whereas steroids add hormones which commonly causes confusion between the two. Examples of natural, human prohormones include proinsulin and pro-opiomelanocortin.

In the last two decades, prohormones have also been used by bodybuilders, athletes, and nonmedical users of anabolic steroids and other hormones to refer to substances that are expected to convert to active hormones in the body. The intent is to provide the benefits of taking an anabolic steroid without the legal risks, and to achieve the hoped-for benefits or advantages without use of anabolic steroids themselves. Many of these compounds are legal to manufacture, sell, possess and ingest eliminating the legal problems associated with schedule III anabolic steroids. The typical definition of “prohormone” includes a steroidal molecule that has the opposite molecular structure to testosterone on either the 3a/b position or the 17b position. Testosterone has a ketone group on the 3 carbon and a hydroxyl on the 17b carbon. A steroid with modifications away from testosterone in one or both of these areas is commonly referred to as a “prohormone”. These enzymatic changes occur with the body’s bidirectional enzymes.

Bodybuilders often supplement their diets with a powdered form of protein. The powder is mixed with water, milk or juice. Protein powder is generally consumed immediately before and after exercising, or in place of a meal. Some types of protein are to be taken directly before and after a workout (whey protein), while others are to be taken before going to bed (casein protein). The theory behind this supplementation is that bodybuilders, by virtue of their unique training methods and end-goals, require higher-than-average quantities of protein to support maximal muscle growth.

A steroid is a type of organic compound that contains a characteristic arrangement of four cycloalkane rings that are joined to each other. Examples of steroids include the dietary fat cholesterol, the sex hormones estradioland testosterone, and the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone.

Anabolic steroids, technically known as anabolic-androgen steroids (AAS) or colloquially simply as “steroids”, are drugs that mimic the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in the body. They increase protein synthesis within cells, which results in the buildup of cellular tissue(anabolism), especially in muscles. Anabolic steroids also have androgenic and virilizing properties, including the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics such as the growth of the vocal cords, testicles, and body hair (secondary sexual characteristics).

Originating from the full contact sport of Vale tudo in Brazil, the UFC was created in the United States in 1993 with minimal rules, and was promoted as a competition to determine the most effective marital art for unarmed combat situations.

It wasn’t long before the fighters realized that if they wanted to be competitive among the best, they needed to train in additional disciplines. UFC fighters began to morph into well-rounded, balanced fighters that could fight standing or on the floor. This blend of fighting styles and skills became known as mixed martial arts (MMA).

Today, the UFC is the premier organization in MMA and enforces the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Artswithout exception. With more than 20 fights every year, the UFC hosts most of the top-ranked fightersin the world. Events are held not only in America, but in many countries all over the globe.
